History of the department

Regulations on the Department of the Ukrainian Language

Development strategy of the Ukrainian language department for 2020-2025.

The history of the Department of the Ukrainian Language is inextricably linked with the history of the development of our educational institution, as the Stanislav Teacher’s Institute opened three faculties – historical, physical-mathematical and linguistic-literary with two departments – Ukrainian and Russian language and literature.

Therefore, it will be appropriate to mention the most basic milestones of the development of the university, faculty and department:

  • On March 1, 1940, by the decision of the Ukrainian SSR government, a teacher’s institute with a two-year term of study was opened in Ivano-Frankivsk (then Stanislav).
  • On August 4, 1950, the Stanislav Teacher’s Institute was reorganized into a pedagogical one with a four-year course.
  • In 1962, in connection with the renaming of the city of Stanislav to Ivano-Frankivsk, the institute also changed its name – Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute.
  • On January 5, 1971, the Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute was named after Vasyl Stefanyk.
  • On August 24, 1992, the institute was reorganized into Vasyl Stefanyk Prykarpattia State University with a 5-year course.
  • Since 2004, the Carpathian University has become national.

The faculty also changed its status:

  • in 1940-1941 and 1944-1951 it was called linguistic and literary,
  • 1951-1969 – historical and philological,
  • 1969-2004 – philological,
  • 2004-2016 – Institute of Philology,
  • since September 2016 – Faculty of Philology.

The fate of the department over the course of 70 years was different:
